Fabulous Stocking Stuffers

Happy Thanksgiving Dolls! Can you believe that 2010 is almost over, CRAZY RIGHT? Well you know what that means.....it's gift giving time. This process is exciting for those of us who are great gift givers, however I am a horrible at selecting gifts for people and ALWAYS wait until the very last minute to shop. For those of you who fall into the same category as me I have created a list of "Fabulous Stocking Stuffers" for the Ladies in your life. The list consists of products that I either have or want so I figured that other Divas would appreciate them as well. Enjoy :)

1. MAC Cosmetics - She's Got it All Apply, Line & Define Brush Collection

This brush set is PERF for the lady who loves to dress up her eyes and try different eye looks, but doesn't have the proper tools. I cannot stress enough how essential it is to utilize the correct brushes when applying eye makeup. In addition to the fabulous brushes, the collection comes with a fabulous tartan plaid bag to carry them in which fits into any purse. This kit retails at $49.50 and can be purchased at all MAC locations (stores and counters) and online - http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/2221/12890/Shes-Got-it-All-Apply-Define-Line-Brush-Collection/index.tmpl

2. Clarisonic Skincare Brush

Estheticians utilize this brush when performing facials on virtually every skin type. It removes makeup six times better than traditional methods, Clears pores and reduces the appearance of pore size, Cleanses so thoroughly that skincare products absorb better, and Creates noticeably healthier looking skin. If your skin is problematic in any way I guarantee that using this product will drastically improve its appearance. It retails for $195, however it prevents you from ever needing a facial again making it well worth the price!! I suggest making the brush a part of your everyday skincare regimen, however using it once daily (at night) is extremely effective as well. The Clarisonic Skincare Brush can be purchased at Nordstrom, Sephora, or online - http://www.clarisonic.com/

3. Lancome Cils Booster XL Super Enhancing Mascara Base

One main trend among my clients is that many of them don't own or use a mascara primer or base, but can't seem to understand why their mascara isn't providing the affect they desire. HELLO LADIES.........you need a base! While mascaras are designed to either create volume, length, curl or a combination of the three, depending upon the consistency of the product and the shape of the wand, they can be difficult to apply smoothly. However all mascaras work effortlessly with a base or primer and this particular one by far is my favorite. Lancome’s Mascara Base separates and defines lashes, creating exceptional length and volume. This product retails at $22.00 and can be purchased at Nordstrom, Sephora and all other retail locations where Lancome products are sold.

4. Deborah Lippmann 'Layer Cake' Nail Color Trio

While working at the MAC counter in Nordstrom, I stumbled across the most FABULOUS nail color trio that I absolutely die for. The Nordstrom website describes it as: An uber-chic polish trio featuring Wicked Game (swirling lavender grey), Happy Birthday (party in a bottle) and Dark Side of the Moon (absolutely aubergine). I like to paint the nails on one hand with Wicked Game and the opposite hand with Dark Side of the Moon, then top both hands off with Happy Birthday (it really is a party in a bottle). For the less flashy lady alternate manicures with Wicked Game and Dark Side of the Moon. Also, not only are the colors Fab but they are in trend for the season so you can't loose. This trio retails at $25.00 and can be purchased at Nordstrom locations or online - http://shop.nordstrom.com/

5. Amazing Grace

These chilly wintry months cause our skin to become dry and tight. Philosphy's Amazing Grace perfumed hot salt, tub and shower scrub works fabulously to soften and smooth the skin. In addition to the supple skin that is left after using the scrub, a feminine and clean smell remains that lingers throughout the day. This scrub retails are $25.00 for 23 oz and is available wherever Philosophy products are sold, or online - http://www.philosophy.com/

I hope that my list of items inspired you and provided ideas for your own personal lists (LOL) or gifts to buy for your loved ones. Other gift ideas include mani/pedi giftcards, MAC's 5 Sassy Neutral Lassies Lipglass set, and a subscription to Vogue or InStyle magazines.

Also Ladies, take a moment to think about those less fortunate and lend a helping hand this holiday season :) Happy Holidays

Happy Wednesday Dolls! I hope that you are all having a Fabulous week thus far. So.....if you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen my tweets singing praises to blush, one of my favorite, and one of the most necessary, cosmetic items for this time of the year specifically. We focus so much energy on perfecting that smokey eye or nude lip, and totally forget about the space between the two. Makeup application is about a balanced and complete look Dolls. Don't ignore the cheeks!

Blush is the product that will accentuate those lovely cheekbones when you smile, while adding much needed color to the face. While blush brings radiance to you face, it is important to know the proper ways to apply it. There are 3 techniques that I utilize when applying blush:

1. Applelonia - When utilizing this technique focus solely on the apples of the cheek and apply the color in round strokes to this area. I suggest smiling in order to find them. Finish off with some matte bronzer as a contour to further accentuate the apples.

2. Windburn - Windburn is my absolute FAVE technique for the Winter months. This look is natural giving the skin a healthy & flushed appearance. Apply the color to the apples of the cheeks and blend outward into hairline. Be sure that the color is evenly swept over the cheeks.

3. Blushbaby - This technique is for that girl who absolutely LOVES blush and color! First apply the color to the apples of the cheeks, next blend both outward to the ears and upward to the temples. Next lightly apply the color to the hairline surrounding the forehead making sure to blend well. Lightly dust some color from the chin outward along the jawline. Again BLEND BLEND BLEND!

I suggest utilizing a creme blush as a base when utilizing any of these techniques. Also, gradually apply the color to you face. Blush is totally buildable. Don't be afraid of color - EXPERIMENT! That's the beauty of makeup, you can take it off ;) Have a Fab rest of the week Beauties.

Tricks of the Trade

Hey Beauties!! I apologize for not blogging in a few weeks, I was completely overwhelmed with my mother's wedding (which I will post photos from next week) and super important exams at school. Needless to say, I'm BACK and ready to continue inspiring you to be Fabulous & Stunning! We are all Beautiful, however it is very necessary to update your Beauty from time to time, with that being said, this post is dedicated to my ladies who are in a "Beauty Slump". Now is the time to "Update your Beauty" and the following tips will catapult this process.

1. Always rock clean and perfect skin.
Experiment with different foundation formulas of various levels of coverage until you find the one that works wonders and literally "looks like skin". The object is to appear as natural as possible while looking as perfect as possible.

2. Opt for thick, well-defined brows. Long gone are the days of thin and sparse brows. Volume, with a side of definition, is the key. Growing the brows out completely can take from 6 mos up to a year, and while I understand this process is excruciating, there are products in existence to help you along(brow gels, brow pencils, muted shadows & concealers).

3. A pop of color on the lip is so necessary. During the Winter months, your skin loses the color you procured during the Spring & Summer months. This is the main reason why a vibrantly beautiful color is needed on the lips. Find a hue that works best for your complexion and can be rocked everyday. Plums and Reds are extremely popular this season. **With colors such as these a lip pencil is essential.

4. You can't lose with a golden eye. Soft gold and luminous beige eye shadows will always perfect any look. These hues are soft enough to compliment any brow, lip or blush, yet bold enough to draw attention to the eyes. Pair with a fabulous lash elongating black mascara for timeless look. Dress up your eyes Dolls!

5. Turn bad hair days into bun days. Ladies there is NO SUCH THING as a bad hair day in 2010. With the plethora of non structured hairstyles in existence, there is always a way to save the hair. When it's time for the weave to be washed and tightened simply pull the hair up or back (depending on your preference) into a messy bun or loose braid for an effortless look. If you are rockin a short cut, use pins or a headband to achieve a look of effortlessness.

Plum Passion

I have recently fallen in LOVE with the deep plum lip!! I used to feel that it was goth and too harsh to compliment many skin tones. However, with the recent emergence of the variation of plum shades, there is virtually a hue in existence for all complexions. The Dark Plum lip is sexy and instantly transforms any woman into a Bombshell. This seductive hue is great for a date night, and is especially appropriate for the Fall season. Pair plum lip with soft natural eyes loaded with black mascara, and sheer peach blush for perfection. I personally love rockin this look with leopard print.

Diary of a Product Junky: Entry #3

With the plethora of mascaras on the market today, it's difficult to decipher which brand truly makes the best product. Being a makeup artist and certified product junky, I can honestly say that I've easily tried at least 20 types of mascaras, and my best experience was with Lancome's Hypnôse Drama. The full contact S-shaped curved brush grasps and loads lashes for a fanned out, eye-popping, full body fringe. It is the best quality mascara at its price point and definitely worth the expense. This mascara is literally drama in a bottle. It retails for $24.50 and can be purchased at Sephora locations nationwide.

Makeup Trend: Two-Tone Makeup

While skimming through various fashion magazines during the many flights I’ve taken this month, I noticed a reoccurring trend among the models in the advertisements and various celebrity photos – Two-Tone Makeup. What exactly is this two-tone makeup you ask? It is simply the usage of two tones (colors/shades) of product in a single area on the face. This contrasting technique accentuates the face and pronounces the features, and not to worry, it can easily transcend from the Runway and be rocked by everyday Fabs like you and me.

EYES:

Use contrasting colors to add drama and make a statement. Try this sexy look for a date night or night out with the girls.

LIPS:

For a more subtle look, select two shades in the same family and apply the darker shade to the periphery, and the lighter, softer of the two in the center.

FACE:

Layering bronzer and blush pronounces the cheekbones while adding definition. Experiment with a broad range of blush colors when creating this look.

Diary of a Product Junky: Entry #2

Long time no see Dolls! I know I know, I’ve been slacking on the posts, but I am back in full effect and so happy to share with you an amazing product that I die for. AMBI EVEN & CLEAR Exfoliating Wash is virtually the most effective cleanser I’ve come across this year, and we all know that I am extremely critical of cleansers. I have been religiously using it twice per day and have noticed a dramatic (positive) change in both the texture and clarity of my face. It is my opinion that it has the capacity to work best on normal skin, however with the seasons changing my oily-skin Dolls can benefit from the consistency of this great product as well. This unique cleanser consists of microbeads that gently exfoliates skin by removing dead skin cells. Also, it is specially formulated with salicylic acid, and a combination of soy extract and Vitamins C & E to help clear skin of pimples and breakouts while keeping skin even toned. With daily use, this creamy exfoliating cleanser rejuvenates skin, leaving it more radiant and smooth. I wholeheartedly recommend this product and give it the “ADJ Approval”.

“If the Eyes are the Windows to the Soul, the Eyebrows are the Drapes.......”

"If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the eyebrows must be the drapes, and there’s nothing sexier than a pair of swanky curtains." How appropriate and hilarious is that quote? Ladies, Ladies, Ladies I cannot stress enough the importance of properly groomed brows. They frame not only your eyes, but literally your entire face, and unkempt or improperly shaped brows are extremely unacceptable. How many of us can admit to having an unfortunate experience when having our eyebrows done? I know that I have cried after having mine waxed by a non-reputable and/or not formally trained technician. This is a common mistake that we all have made. Don’t allow any facility or person who “does eyebrows” to do your eyebrows, BE PICKY!! I recommend visiting a boutique that specializes in eyebrows or allowing ONLY a professionally trained Esthetician groom your brows.

The following options are available for grooming brows:

1. Waxing - Eyebrow waxing is hands down the most popular option used and has been in practice for decades and decades. This option is fairly inexpensive and last anywhere from three to ten weeks depending upon the individual. Possible consequences of waxing include red, irritated skin, a slight burning or itchy feeling, or even a minor rash in the area where the wax was applied. This is more common when using physician prescribed topical treatments for acne or other skin conditions. Keep in mind that waxing is quicker, but removes massive amounts of hair in one strip allowing a higher margin for mistake. This is not an issue if the technician is experienced and properly trained.

2. Threading (My personal FAVORITE) - Threading is an ancient method of hair removal which originated in parts of India, the Middle and Far East, and is now gaining popularity in Western countries. 100% cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hairs in the thread, which are then lifted quickly from the follicle. It is more precise than waxing and allows for better lines. Threading is highly recommended and an excellent option for those who use Retin-A, Accutane, or similar products.

3. Electrolysis - Electrolysis involves the use of a special electrode that delivers a minor electrical shock current to the hair follicle. The current kills the follicle at the same time as it removes unwanted hair. Because the hair is often in different stages of growth, electrolysis treatment may need to be repeated two or three times to make certain that all of the unwanted hair is successfully removed. This option must be performed by a licensed & trained professional because any mistake is irreversible. This is also obviously the most expensive of the four options, but only a few treatments are necessary.

4. Tweezing - Many women who choose to groom their eyebrows personally use the tweezing technique. Plucking with tweezers can be extremely painful initially but once the skin gets accustomed to the process the pain subsides. This option is the least popular because it requires the longest amount of time to complete. Tweezing will almost ALWAYS be used at the end of both the waxing and threading techniques to clean up the excess hairs.

No matter what option you select to groom your eyebrows, the shape is the most important part of the process. The eyebrow shape can enhance & frame your eyes, and balance your features. I have listed below some tips regarding how to properly shape your eyebrows.

Eyebrow Tips:

1. The highest arch of the eyebrow should be straight up from the outside edge of the iris. A straight edge, such as a ruler can be used to determine exactly where this line falls.

2. Pencil thin eyebrows are a definite NO! They cause the eyes to appear larger and is reminiscent of the 20's. Opt for a fuller eyebrow with a definite shape. However, be conscious of your personal features. Stronger features are complimented by stronger, fuller eyebrows, while delicate features are balanced by softer eyebrows.

3. Symmetry is the key component when properly grooming the eyebrows. Remember that the space between your eyebrows should be equal to the width of your eye.

4. Your eyebrows aren't twins, or sisters. They are more like cousins. It is virtually impossible for them to be perfectly identical!

5. Brow gel helps keep your brows in place all day. If you don't have gel, apply a dab of hairspray to your finger and apply to brows to keep unruly hairs in place. This tip is dedicated to my bushy eyebrow sistahs :)! Embrace the gel.

6. When filling in your brows, two colors are better then one! Use a lighter color on the thicker fuller part of your brows and a darker color at the tail ends. This is a trick that many celebrity pros use on their clients. Could also wet the brush when applying the color to the tail ends to darken the shadow as a opposed to using two colors.

7. When selecting an eyebrow powder opt for a soft-textured matte shadow that matches your hair color. Apply with an angle brush (that is used for eyeliner as well) and use short soft strokes that extend upward and out.

8. Using an eyebrow pencil to fill-in the brows is my personal favorite, however it can be difficult to master initially. Many women apply it incorrectly creating harsh strong lines that are visible to others. For a more natural look, use short soft thin strokes that "look like hair" and remember to blend with a firm eyebrow brush after applying. Also be sure that the pencil provides a dry finish as opposed to a wet finish.

9. Experts say that the ideal time for brow-shaping is the week after your period begins. Apparently it's the time during your cycle when your body is least sensitive to hair removal.

Every woman must ultimately find the most complimentary eyebrow shape for their individual face shape and features whether it be high arch, rounded arch or no arch. Look to your friends, co-workers and other people for inspiration when selecting an Eyebrow Guru. If you admire their brows, then schedule a consultation and express your wants as a client. Once again, BE PICKY!! Your eyebrows are extremely important and need to be treated with TLC.

The Truth About Your Neck & Hands

Ladies it's safe to say that we all tend to ignore our neck and hands while focusing all of our energy on perfecting our faces. However, the neck and hands age as well and require the same amount of TLC! Studies show that the hands are the second area people look to guesstimate a person's age (with the face being the first), and the neck seems to age faster than any other part of the body. We spend thousands of dollars per year on spa visits and the purchasing of facial cleaners and other skincare products targeted for the face, with hopes to achieve a fresher, younger looking face, all the while our hands and necks are continuing to age before our very own eyes. We can combat this process and stop the clock by taking on certain preventative methods.

For your Neck:
1. Moisturize your neck twice daily with the same effective moisturizer used on your face. How often do we totally neglect the neck and apply moisturizer to our face and bodies solely? It is essential to keep the neck hydrated. Select products that contain CynergyTK, Phytessence Wakame and Nano Lipobelle HEQ10.

2. Use retinoids or over the counter retinol once a week on your neck to increase collagen while improving texture. I recommend applying this at night beneath your moisturizer.

3. Take an omega-3 fatty acid food supplement daily to help augment missing nutrients in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are actually quite helpful in the production of growth hormones which promote collagen regeneration.

4. Remember to combat UV rays from the sun! Apply sunscreen to your neck for those longs days at the beach and days when the sun is at its brightest. It is perfectly acceptable to use a moisturizer that contains an SPF of 15 (at least) normally.

5. Try to eat as well as you possibly can. It is commonly accepted that refined foods like white flour, sugar and products made with them, and tea, coffee, and soft drinks contribute to wrinkles, and premature aging.

6. Lower your pillow. Sleeping with your neck extended instead of scrunched down into your chest can help you avoid neck creases and bands from forming.

For Your Hands:
1. Use a good quality sunscreen on your hands to prevent wrinkles and age spots. Your hands are constantly exposed to the sun and should NOT be ignored.

2. When you’re scrubbing pots and pans in hot water or cleaning with bleach, put on some rubber or latex gloves to keep the hot water and chemicals off your skin. In the cold winter weather, wear your gloves. PROTECT YOUR HANDS!

3. Exfoliate your hands at least bi-monthly to remove dead skin cells and keep them smooth. I also recommend sporadic paraffin wax hand treatments, they are to DIE for. During your next visit to the nail salon request one. Pamper yourself :)

4. Keep lotion in your bathroom and kitchen near the sink. It is essential to moisturize your hands after you have washed them throughout the day. Also, keep a travel size bottle of hand cream in your purse for when you are out and about during the day.

5. To keep your hands healthy, take adequate doses of Vitamins B complex, A, E and C. Vitamin B complex promotes healthy nails, skin and hair while Vitamin A helps to sustain and repair skin tissue. Vitamins E and C are mainly important in offsetting the damage caused by exposure to the sun.

6. A regular manicure will keep your nails healthy, moisturize your cuticles and give a younger look to your hands. You can do it either at the salon or at home. I have become quite amazing at performing manicures at home!

These recommendations, along with countless others, effectively prevent the aging of both the neck and hands. Always take care of yourself to the best of your ability. You only get one body so do right by it!

Perfect Nude Lip

So as usual I am deeming something "My Favorite Thing" but I just can't help that there are so many fabulous products/looks in existence! As I mentioned in a previous post, I absolutely love love love a nude lip. It is sexy and chic, and perfectly compliments virtually any eye and/or blush makeup combination. The following three products used properly create the Perfect Nude Lip:

1. Creme De' Nude Cremesheen Lipstick by MAC
2. Cork Lip Pencil by MAC
3. C-Thru Lipglass by MAC

This fusion compliments light to medium dark skin complexions. I recommend wearing a lip primer with this combination to neutralize the lips. These three products are extremely versatile making the purchase worth your while! Cork lip pencil also works fabulously with other nude, and pink, peach and coral colored lipsticks and glosses. Not to mention, I am an advocate of wearing C-thru Lipglass alone for an everyday look.

Naturally Oily

There are 5 basic skin types:

1. Normal Skin
2. Dry Skin
3. Oily Skin
4. Combination Skin
5. Sensitive Skin

The varying characteristics of these skin types require very specific skin care and makeup products. Per request from one of my very enthusiastic readers I am going to dedicate this post to oily skin. She complained that after successfully applying makeup before going to work, her face literally transforms into an oil slick within a few short hours. This is a common problem that can be relieved by changing your skin care regimen and using the proper products.

Tip #1 - Be sure to select a gel cleanser that is oil-free. Gel cleansers work best on oily skin because they are fabulous at absorbing excess oils.

Tip #2 - If your skin feels sticky or oily after successfully rinsing your face, use a toner to enhance the cleanser.

Tip #3 - DO NOT AVOID MOISTURIZER! It is important to understand that all skin types require moisturizer. I recommend a very light oil-free moisturizer or moisturizing gel to be applied immediately after the toner has absorbed. It is important to make sure the moisturizer is applied before your skin begins to create its natural oils.

Tip #4 - Apply a clay mask to your face once per week (bi-weekly during the Summer months). Clay masks work effectively to absorb excess oils, dirt and harmful toxins from the skin.

Tip #5 - SCRUBS = YOUR BFF! Exfoliating scrubs remove dead skin cells, balance oil production, and reduce in size the appearance of engorged pores. I recommend using a scrub no more then twice a week. Over use may lead to irritation of the skin due to the abrasive nature of the product.

Tip #6 - Use a foundation primer. Foundation primer aids in absorbing the excess oils that our skin produces, which reduces the shine that occurs in combination or oily skin types. The use of a primer also lessens the amount of foundation that is used.

Tip #7 - Apply your makeup with clean brushes or unused sponges only. Oil and bacteria from used and or contaminated brushes/sponges will place excess oils & debris onto the face. Also, NEVER use your fingers! Using your fingers transfers more oil to the face.

Tip #8 - Selecting the appropriate foundation is extremely important.
*Select a non-comedogenic liquid foundation with a MATTE finish
*Apply a thin layer of foundation only (Don't cake it on!)
*Avoid foundations that contain alcohol, bismuth oxychloride and dimenthicone
*Look for foundations that contain kaolin clay (for oil control), serecite (for pore reduction), titanium dioxide (for sun protection)
*If you are stuck between two shades that work best for your complexion, select the lighter shade. The natural oils from your skin will eventually mix with the foundation causing the shade to appear darker.

Tip #9 - Apply a light colorless blot powder to your face once the foundation has been applied. This will help to set the liquid and prevent it from transferring throughout the day. Use throughout the day when necessary to absorb oils.

Tip #10 - Stay away from cream-based eye shadows and blushes, and opt for powder only. Use an eye shadow primer that creates a matte finish to prevent the eye makeup from creasing.

Just keep in mind that having oily skin is not necessarily a negative thing. Studies show that oily skin tends to age better than dry skin and it usually has less wrinkles than dry skin of the same age. Oily skin also looks vibrant, healthy & glowy!

BLACK VS. BLUE

Recently my girlfriend Ashlee called me requesting suggestions for what type of makeup she should wear with blue mascara. I immediately told her the obvious answer according to her personal coloring (she is a caramel complected Black girl)- silver, purple & blue eye shadows with a nude or sheer pink colored lip gloss. But after talking to her I begin to think about the magic of colored mascara as a whole. I have always kept a blue mascara around for those days when I decided I wanted to make my dark brown eyes truly POP, but there are other colored mascaras that compliment and add subtle drama to eyes of all shades without making the wearer look as if he or she is attending a rave on Halloween!

For Brown Eyes - Turquoise & Navy Hues
For Blue Eyes - Purple & Brown Hues
For Green Eyes - Purple Hues (go richer)
For All Eyes - Rich Burgundy

Remember to conscious of the eye shadow you are wearing to compliment the colored mascara. Great rule of thumb when you are unsure about what combination(s) to wear - KEEP IT NATURAL & NEUTRAL. Have fun with different colors and don't be afraid to change it up!

Diary of a Product Junky: Entry #1

Raise your hand if you are a Product Junky (or PJ for short). I am a CERTIFIED, hands down PJ who has come to grips with the severity of my situation. I will purchase and try virtually any beauty product that appeals to me from makeup to skincare to nailcare and beyond. While my makeup kit is completely to capacity for obvious reasons, if you were to take a look in my linen closet or beneath my bathroom sink, the PJ in me would be TOTALLY exposed! To provide assistance to my readers (my PJs in particular) when selecting products to purchase I decided to share my experiences with ones I have tried in order to promote the fabulous ones and stop you from wasting your money on the not-so-greats! For this post in particular I have selected a makeup product - Maybelline XXL PRO Extensions Mascare and a skincare product - Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. So here we go................

Maybelline XXL PRO Extensions Mascara

While I have always been a strong advocate for Maybelline Great Lash mascara for an everyday mascara, up until a few months ago I was a ride or die MAC Zoom Lash Girl for a dramatic eye or night out. Around that time, the consistency of MAC Zoom Lash appeared to be different and I noticed that my application would constantly be lumpy, and once the product dried I would have God awful flaking. This was a SERIOUS problem for me and fed the PJ in me fuel to go a quest for an amazing dramatic mascara. I decided that since Maybelline Great Lash had never let me down, I would attempt an option from the Maybelline brand and ended up purchasing the Maybelline XXL PRO Extensions mascara is black for approximately $8.99. This mascara was initially appealing because it incorporated both the primer and actual mascara into the same product. Normally I would purchase both the primer and Zoom Lash separately from MAC so I was TOO excited about the 2 for 1 deal, however you receive more product when they are purchased from MAC, BUT spend approximately three times more money (so ultimately the Maybelline XXL PRO Extensions mascara is the better deal!). After applying two layers of the XXL PRO to my naked lashes and allowing them to dry I was instantly satisfied. This product separates, elongates and adds volume simultaneously creating a superb level of drama and elegance to the eyes. I have only used the product a handful of time, but I would strongly recommend it to all of you Fabs! Maybelline XXL PRO Extensions mascara is reasonably priced and is of a level of quality comparable to much pricier competitors.

Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser

For some reason when I reached the ripe old age of 25 my skin started to literally spazz out, so the PJ in me immediately went into action going on a serious mission to find the perfect cleanser that would cease the bad activity occurring on my face. After trying Neutrogena's Oil Free Acne wash and having the opposite reaction then that of what I expected I decided to select a product from a different brand entirely. I remembered one of my cousin's telling me that she loved this fabulous cleanser by Aveeno, and judging from her radiant skin, the cleanser was to die for. I excitedly purchased Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser and begin using it consistently for a few weeks. I'm disappointed to report that my experience with this product was not a positive one. It completely dried my skin and neglected to provide any noticeable positive changes with the condition of my skin, although I can say that my skin didn't worsen when using this product. I have combination skin and this product isn't marketed specifically to any single skin-type, however it's obvious after using it that it is made for people with oily skin. While I wouldn't recommend this product to my readers, I wouldn't totally bash its abilities simply because my experience wasn't completely negative.

Bedazzle Your Lashes

For Prom Season 2010 the common product I used on my girls was diamond-studded false lashes. I DIE for these because they are right up my alley - Rhinestones & Glitter! These gorgeous additions create an extra level of attitude to any makeup look, but are still simply pretty and elegant. The main concern people have with these are whether or not the lashes will feel heavy and weigh down the eyelid. From personal experience, and feedback I've received from my clients, the diamond-studded lashes felt identical to the normal lashes worn everyday by most celebrities. I recommend Ardell brand False Eyelashes because they have a fantastic selection and are quite inexpensive compared to other brands of equal quality. They can be purchased at Sally's Beauty Supply stores and other drug stores nationwide. For more information and to view their products visit their website at http://www.ardelllashes.com/.

Follow these steps to successfully apply the lashes:

1. False eyelashes may be trimmed in width or length to suit your eye size or personal preference. (Try original length before cutting.) Always cut from the outer lashes (the end with thicker and longer lashes) when trimming.
2. Apply fake eyelash glue sparingly to lash band. I recommend DUO brand Eyelash Adhesive.
3. Wait at least 10 seconds for adhesive to become sticky.
4. Position false eyelashes slightly above your natural lash with tweezers and press ends into place.
5. Gently press across entire lash until set.
6. To remove, dab either waterproof eye makeup remover or fake eyelash remover on the lashline with a cotton swab. Allow product to soak then gently peel false eyelashes band off lid, starting at outer corner. (I sometimes honestly just wash my face with my cleanser and the lashes are loosened and easy to remove.)
7. Remove adhesive from band and place your false eyelashes back to the tray for re-use.

These lashes are FUN FUN FUN to say the least and I promise you will fall in love with them!

Summertime Makeup: Avoid the Meltdown!

It is seriously a MYSTERY to me how women walk around during the sweltering Summer months wearing a full face of makeup. I'm not a master makeup artist, but I have discovered a plethora of tips to mask certain issues, though I have yet to discover a way to successfully wear a full face of makeup for an entire day in July or August! However, I have compiled a list of tips/techniques providing insight as to how to obtain a beautiful Summertime Look that will stay put!

1. ELIMINATE LIQUID FOUNDATION!!!
During these HOTT months opt for a tinted moisturizer such as Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF. Tinted moisturizer provides sheer, natural coverage while moisturizing and protecting your skin. If you need to conceal dark circles and other skin blemishes, I suggest using a waterproof protective concealer on top of the moisturizer. Be sure to blend well.

2. Powder is your friend.
Loose powder is ideal for Summer simply because it contains less oils then liquid or cream based foundations. Lightly apply a thin layer of loose powder over your tinted moisturizer (and concealer if necessary) to create more coverage. Remember, don't go overboard with the powder! The sun will cause the consistency of the powder to change creating unwanted streaks on your face.

3. Blot Papers are your Best Friend.
I die for CVS brand oil absorbing sheets. They are at least one to two dollars cheaper than the other name brand sheets and work equally as well. Carry a pack of these in your purse and remove oil from you face at your discretion. Blot, don't rub to keep makeup in place.

4. Sweat-proof your eyelashes.
Waterproof mascara is a must-have item for your summertime makeup bag. It is a known fact that we hold sweat in our hair follicles, so when the hot Summer causes us to perspire, our eyelashes retain moisture. Waterproof mascara is the solution to this issue. Select the waterproof version of your favorite mascara brand and shade. I prefer jet black to add drama since less makeup is worn on the rest of the fact.

5. Tone down the lip.
Retire the creamy and thicker lipsticks, and opt for neutral shade sheer glosses. MAC Lustreglasses in Instant Gold and Beaux are great options for this. For protection against harmful rays, use a SPF lip balm beneath your gloss. If you're a girl who lives for color and bold lips, I suggest utilizing a long lasting and water resistant lip product such as Max Factor Lipfinity.

6. Get an Extra Glow.
Bronzer is a personal favorite item of mine for the Summer, however it must be applied correctly! Apply bronzer lightly to your chin, nose & cheeks only. I suggest using the Smashbox FAN BRUSH #22 or something comparable.

Summertime = Neon Hues

My two favorite colors are yellow and green simply because they are fabulously bright and cheery. They provide an instant jolt of energy and stimulation which is why I opted to paint my living room green and dining room yellow three years ago (which is seriously one of the best decorating ideas ever!). Not only do I enjoy rooms and clothing items in these fantastic hues, I die for the plethora of eye makeup available in these colors as well. And yes, I do combine the two colors within the same look to achieve absolute "eye candy". Let me tell you this color combination looks good enough to eat! While randomly viewing the photo gallery of an online fashion magazine I found a picture of Kim Kardashian (everyones favorite reality star turned entrepreneur) wearing the most fabulous makeup combination and thought I would share it with you beautiful people. Achieving Kim's look is not as difficult as it appears, all you need is the proper BRUSHES and makeup products, and you too can successfully achieve this look!

Step 1 – Be sure to properly cleanse and moisturize your skin prior to applying makeup. During the summer months, use a moisturizer that is lightweight, yet effective and combative against harsh UV rays from the sun.

Step 2 – Apply a face primer such as Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer to the entire face once the moisturizer has completely dissolved. The primer will act as a barrier between your skin and the foundation, providing a matte and smooth finish.

Step 3 – Apply a neutral color cream eye shadow such as MAC Tan Ray Paint over the entire eyelid and brow bone. Be sure to smooth the color out evenly with a blender brush and remove all creases to ensure that it dries down smooth. (Option - Fill in your eyebrows with the method of your choice. I recommend MAC's retractable brow pencil.)

Step 4 - Apply a lovely goldish-yellow eye shadow such as MAC Goldmine all over the entire lid (from the inner to the outer) making sure to not extend the color up into the brow bone area. Blend the color well.

Step 5 - To create definition, apply an intense green eye shadow with shimmer such as MAC Humid to the crease, and slightly to the outer crease for drama. Slightly highlight the brow bone area with a shimmery neutral shadow or bronzer that isn't too dark.

Step 6 - Using a white eyeliner, gently line the waterline on the bottom lid to create the illusion of brighter, wider eyes. Using the small angle brush (or liner brush) line the inner bottom lashline (just below the white liner) with the goldish-yellow shadow, and the outer with the deep green shadow. Gently smudge the colors for a more dramatic look.

Step 7 - Apply a line of black liquid eyeliner across the upper lash line, gradually increasing the width of the line from the inner corner to the outer.

Step 8 - Apply a lightweight liquid foundation over the entire face using a foundation brush. Use this as an opportunity to clean up any residue from the eye shadow and/or eyeliner. Next, apply liquid concealer to any imperfections that weren’t previous concealed by the primer.

Step 9 - Using a wide fluffy powder brush, apply a loose powder such as MAC Select Sheer/Pressed powder over the entire face with the exception of the eyes. This sets both the foundation and concealer creating a flawless face.

Step 10 - Using an angle blush brush or the wide fluffy powder brush, apply bronzer to the cheekbones and along the hairline. Be sure to initially apply lightly and gradually increase the amount of product. Using the same wide fluffy powder brush, apply a shimmer powder such as Estee Lauder Signature 5-Tone Shimmer powder to the bridge of the nose.

Step 11 - Line the lips with a neutral color lipliner such as MAC Cork lip liner. Next, apply a coral peach color lipstick such as Revlon Moon Drops - Creme Lipstick in Hot Coral. If you are a "gloss-kinda-gal" apply a sheer lip gloss such as MAC lustreglass over the lipstick & liner.

Step 12
- Apply two coats of a lengthening black mascara such as Maybelline Great Lash to the lashes.

Wear hair back in bun to showcase this Look. Also, opt for white and/or neutral color ensembles with this look. It is PERFECT for a Summer night out on the town!

TREND ALERT: Leopard Print

While I know this is primarily a makeup blog, I am a Lover of all things related to fashion and will create a weekly (or bi-weekly, depending upon my mood) post regarding a current trend that I DIE FOR! This week's trend is Leopard Print. I personally am all About anything leopard print, from bed comforters to headbands. However, I can understand some peoples' reservations with the Bold & daring statement. If worn incorrectly, the trend can transform from Fabulous to overbearing tackiness (ex. Peggy Bundy from "Married With Children"). Try pairing leopard print shoes with an all black ensemble for a trendy but chic look. Also, try sticking to one print per ensemble to cut down on the busyness. Here are a few of my current FAVORITE Leopard Print items.

1. Leopard-print Scarf - These scarfs are my favorite accessory! Use one to add flare to an otherwise simple outfit. Pair with a white button up and boyfriend jeans for a preppy-chic look. Or, throw one on with a form-fitting black mini for a fun date night.

2. Stuart Weitzman Leopard Bobcat 'Colorado" Platform Slingbacks - The minute I saw these fabulous shoes I ordered them and they have been a wardrobe staple ever since. These versatile shoes can be worn during the Spring, Summer & Fall making them a great addition to your wardrobe.

3. Leopard-print Silk-georgette Dress - This delicious garment is a room stealer in any situation. Perfect for date night, a business meeting or Sunday morning service, you will definitely get use out of this gorgeous number. Pair with a black pump of your choice & subtle jewelry and you will achieve Perfection.

4. Leopard-print Jumpsuit - This number is only for the Wild at Heart, proceed with caution! I absolutely love this jumpsuit because it screams "I make my own rules!". Pair with a black cropped leather jacket, cami or any sleek black outerwear of your choice during the Fall and Winter months. When accessorizing, pair bold jewelry such as gold bamboo earrings and an array of bangles for that extra Umph.

DeBunking the Makeup & Skin Myths!

Hello Fabs! I hope that you all have had a fabulous week thus far. I have been really busy with school and in fact, inspiration for this post was derived from one of my lovely classmates. Once she found out I was a makeup artist she begin to pick my brain about the different skin and makeup "tips" she had received throughout the years, and I became complete discouraged with the falseness of the information she had been fed. This post "Debunks" some common makeup and skin myths that we are all exposed to.

Myth: Blush is for adding color, not definition.
Truth: Cheek color does both – add definition and color. It can be used to add warmth to your face and to shape and contour, enhancing cheekbones to make your face appear thinner. More neutral tones of cheek color can also be uses to contour other areas of the face, such as the jawline, temples and the sides of the nose.

Myth:
It is essential that you drink at least eight glasses of water a day to achieve beautiful, glowing skin.
Truth: The majority of the water we are supposed to consume is derived from foods. Raw produce, unlike regular H2O, has antioxidants that help strengthen cell walls so you stay hydrated.

Myth: Foundation should be used on the eyelids beneath the eye shadow to ensure the longevity of the makeup.
Truth: Foundation causes eye makeup to cake and crease. Use a neutral color makeup base such as MAC paint, or dust pale yellow powder onto bare lids to make eye shadow adhere.

Myth: Shaving makes hair grow back thicker.
Truth: When you shave, you’re seeing the blunt edges of the hair regrow all at the same time, so there’s an appearance of being thicker, but there’s no difference in the diameter or density of the hair. Also, hair doesn’t seem to grow in as thick in waxing, because the entire follicle is removed, so the hair coming back in is growing in different cycles.

Myth: Squinting or rubbing your eyes and face can cause wrinkles.
Truth: Wrinkles occur where they do because of the places where skin cells are squeezed millions of times by facial expressions. So, squinting, or any other repeated facial expression, like frowning or smiling, will lead to wrinkles when it is done enough times. (Although I don't suggest that you stop smiling, frowning-yes!)

Myth: Spritzing water or liquid based products, such as MAC Fix +, on your face will freshen makeup.
Truth: NO it won’t! Spraying water onto your made-up face will only cause your makeup to run.

Myth: Looking well-rested requires a full eight hours of sleep per night.
Truth: As our cells lose water, our skin looks ashy and sallow. Good hydration from moisturizers can help.

Myth: Concealer should ALWAYS be lighter than your foundation.
Truth: Concealer has many uses and its tone depends on its use. You may use a lighter toned concealer for under eye circles to counteract the shadow, but to cover a blemish you would use a tone similar to your foundation. There are also color-tinted concealers available for specific uses, such as green tint to cover redness. The number one rule is to BLEND BLEND BLEND your concealer until it disappears.

Lip-ouflage

Happy Sunday Fabs! How many of you personally, or know someone who, have darker colored lips and feel that you are exempt from wearing certain color lipglosses, stains or lipsticks because of this? This post is especially for all of you. There are products and tricks in existence that allow every woman to successfully wear any color they feel! You know that concealer that many of us use to cover blemishes, and hide bags & dark circles beneath the eye??....That very same product works to "conceal lips" and create a bare canvas for the application of lip color. After moisturizing the lip with the moisturizer of your choice, take your lip brush and gently apply a thin layer of concealer over your lips. Once the concealer dries, paint on your lipstick and like magic, the true color of the lipstick appears. In addition to the concealer, another technique is to apply a lip primer to your lips prior to applying the lipstick. The primer neutralizes the lips and increases the effect of the lipstick. This technique is not as powerful as the latter, but effective nonetheless. If your lips have become darker due to smoking or reasons other then genetically based ones, cosmetic companies have created products that permanently lighten the color of the lips, however I cannot personally endorse a particular brand. Drink plenty of water and avoid dark caffeinated beverages such as tea and coffee. Some experts believe these products darken lips.

Today marks the start a new week - try something NEW. Be FABULOUS!

Eye Catching.........

Ladies, I've decided to let you in on a few of the eyeliner techniques/trends that I follow to add that extra umph & perfect whatever look I am creating. Its all about stepping outside of your box and reinventing your current look. Enjoy :)

"Drama Drama"
When creating a DRAMATIC eye with black eye liner, I lift the upper eyelid (exposing the eyeball as if I am about to place an eyedrop in), take the jet black eye liner (only a pencil can be used in this situation) and gently line the inner rim of the upper eyelid. On occasion I will also attach individual lashes to the lashes on the very bottom row. This area is sensitive so I suggest using a Kohl liner for a smooth application. This technique adds flare to a smokey eye or other dramatic looks.

"Wide Eyed Gal"

If you are looking for a technique that gives the allusion of brighter, whiter and larger eyes, line the lower inner rim of the bottom lid with a white eyeliner. For a more subtle touch, simply line the inner corner of your eye. This will still create a “pop”. White eyeliner is actually one of my favorite items because of its versatility. If you are opposed to white liner, light champagne or peach work fabulously as well.

"The Infamous Cat Eye"
The "cat eye" is by far the number 1 most requested look I get when creating a smokey eye or totally dramatic eye for a night look. Complete these following steps to achieve the look:

1. Tilt your head back so you’re looking down into the mirror. Start with the inner corners of your eyes and dot the liner along the root of your eyelashes. Be sure to follow your eye’s natural curve while going from the innermost corner to the outermost corner.

2. Next, create a line following the dots you created in the previous step, this time make the line thicker. Be sure to extend outwards toward the outer corner of your eye; the extremity of the tilt depends on your preference. If you prefer more drama, extend your line out further and more upward.

3. Next, use an angle eyeshadow brush to smudge and soften the line. The key during this whole process is to get as close to the root of your eyelashes as possible and to keep the line straight and even while doing so.

4. In regards to your lower lid, this line should be thinner and connect with the line created on the upper lid at the outermost corner. I also suggest using the angle brush to soften and smudge this line.

Ladies, when creating this look use a gel or liquid liner for the upper line.

"I Got The Blues"
I have been in love with, and wearing blue eyeliner for years and this past Spring 2010, runways sanctioned this look as a popular trend. Blue Eyeliner is the new Black. From neon hues to elegant blues, ladies of all nationalities are rockin the Blue fabulously. I personally like to combine blue eyeliner with a gold shadow (add a red lip when feeling extra BOLD) for a sexy & strong collaboration.

There are no limits when using eye liner. You can change the shape, enhance the color, create illusions and perform countless other tricks when experimenting with color and technique. Take the time to literally "play" in your makeup and I guarantee you will be amazed at the discoveries you make!

PRODUCT OF THE MONTH COMING SOON!!

Hello all my Beautiful People :)! I am so excited to announce that my first ever Product of the Month will be available in a few short days. It is an item that virtually every woman uses and will be offered at a special rate simply because you are all FABULOUS! I will also be doing a special product giveaway so stay tuned.

Quick Fix - MAC's Fast Response Eye Cream

By far, MAC’s Fast Eye Response Cream is the best and most responsive eye cream on the market. It is literally an eye lift in a tube! As a freelance artist for MAC, I use this product on clients before applying makeup to their faces when necessary. This cream instantly de-puffs, erases the look of dark circles, firms, soothes, and softens skin around the eye. Its special optics work like magic to fade away lines. Although it is a little on the pricey side at $30 for 0.5oz, less then a pea sized amount is needed for both eyes (when I say this is amazing I mean AMAZING!) Before purchasing this product, visit a MAC counter and ask to sample the product and I guarantee you - you will be SOLD.

Quick Fix - Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes

I mean honestly, who really has the energy to wash their face after coming in from a 16 hour day – NO ONE! However, we must not completely ignore our skin. The effects of sleeping in skin that’s been exposed to debris, impurities and dirt, not to mention makeup that has settled in from the day, can be virtually hazardous! I have been guilty on numerous occasions of not cleansing my face before going to bed, and have almost on every occasion, awaken to a breakout of some sort. To prevent this now I always carry a package of Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes with me if I know I will be out until later in the evening, and use one (or two of necessary) of them on the drive home. I literally wait until I am at stoplight and gently wipe my face until the majority of the makeup and/or debris from the day has been removed. The Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes are one product that I absolutely die for and cannot live without. They can be purchased at drug stores, Target, Wal-Mart and grocery stores nationwide. Not to mention they are super frugal at $4.99 per pack. Also remember to change your pillowcase the following morning if you happen to fall asleep without cleansing your face. The residue from the contaminated pillowcase may cause breakouts that can be easily prevented.

Brown Girls Wear RED

Why is it that my Beautiful Brown Girls feel that they cannot wear red lipstick, when in essence, it is the fabulous shades of Caramel & Mocha that work it Best! It is important that we as Fabulous ladies take risks and try new looks that we ordinarily wouldn't go for simply because we believe that we can't "pull them off". The trick to successfully wearing red lipstick is selecting the appropriate shade for your complexion, and properly applying it. For brown skin, any lipstick with a berry to cranberry undertone works best. Also, try colors with shine and/or shimmer to pop on your skin tone. It is important to wear lip liner with a red lip to eliminate the potential bleeding of the color and to perfect the shape of the lip. Select a lip liner color that is identical to the shade of the lipstick or slightly richer. Also, apply the lipstick with a lip brush. This technique allows you to control the amount of color that is applied as you add layers to achieve the perfect amount and look. My personal favorites for brown girls are (in no particular order):

MAC Cosmetics -
Dubonnet
Fresh Moroccan
New York Apple.

Iman Lip Stain in Fire Opal

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Red Lipstick

Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Crimson

Remember, red lipstick instantly makes the teeth appear pearly white. Be BOLD and get your red on!
